The countrys history evolved so that no religion had enough strength to bind the nation together. The consequence was an Albanocentric mentality, which, during times of adversity ensured the survival of Albanias national identity, but which with the coming of Communism became warped by an ideal that rejected church and mosque in favour of Albanian nationalism. An atheist constitution was introduced in the name of national unity. A number of wide-ranging laws led to the eventual annihilation of religion throughout the country. Todays religious re-birth following the fall of Communism has revealed a number of challenges: principally, the need for local religious and priests. This 13 documentary considers the slow growth of vocations and the struggle of the Church to respond to the multitude of demands of a crushed nation.
